McQueen (I) - One name, two lives

L'enfant terrible of the fashion industry.
Or that's what they say. Others called him the hooligan of fashion.
What cannot be argued is that his tailoring worked magic thanks to his talent and the training at famous Savile Row's Anderson & Sheppard, among others.
Four times British Designer of the Year is not and achievement that many can reach.
The best models have gone through the catwalk by his side.
Theatrical and dramatic, never unnoticed.
McQueen designed Bjork's outfit for the album cover of Homogenic and Lady Gaga.
With Sarah Burton taking over him, McQueen's legacy will be perpetueted.
Let's see a piece of art to remember him
His final collection:

Jena.Theo - Joint forces

Jena.Theo was founded in 2009 by Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidis from their mutual admiration. Working together under their own label made the results even better, winning the Fashion Fringe award in 2009.
The collections of these two talented designers are truly unique.
The combination of two styles makes the garments beautifully voluminous and delicate at the same time, with attention focused on the feminine silhouette
They are becoming well known for their timeless clothing, including silk chiffon shirts and printed evening dresses
Next steps? A denim line and some experimentation with traditional painting techniques
We'll keep an eye on them

Helmut Lang - Urban art

Helmut Lang is retired from the fashion business but his way of seeing fashion redefined how it was communicated and still remains.
The brand has inherited the subtle deconstructivism that was so iconic from the Austrian designer turned into artist.
Sometimes we just want some quality basics, but with a twist.
Minimalism as means of transition
Structured garments to sober up

Music and fashion (4): CSS - Lovefoxx

How does fashion impact on music?
Ask Lovefoxxx, lead singer of Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS)
They come from the fashion scene, not the music universe
And she learnt how to make clothes because she didn't find the outfits that she needed for the band's performances
Her crazy outfits make an impact and the audience always want more
The expectations grow, we want to be surprised and shocked by her catsuits and excessive make up on her childish sweet face
We want to dance and laugh and jump with CSS
Adrenaline...precious treasure

Platform Boudicca - Express yourself

Platform Boudicca was named after the warrior queen leading the uprising against the Romans in ancient Great Britain: although defeated, she managed to bring people together, to remember them who they were, encouraging the expression of emotions
At Boudicca, evolution is their permanent vision
A garment to express your individuality
Combination of textiles: lame, cotton, silk, lycra
Added twists, bows, ties and impossible shapes
You choose your mood

Maurie & Eve - Lazy days

Our friends from Australasia are developing great design brands out there and it's a shame that we don't get to see what they offer very often.
Maurie & Eve is a great example of what we might be missing.
This Australian fashion label was set up by siblings Kelly and Scott Davies with Maya Clemmensen
Their relaxed tailoring with a hard edge remind me of Alexander Wang's designs
The A/W 12 collections present bowie pants and shorts, paired with studded shirts, a trench and light jumpers
The brand uses the prints to give versatility to the designs, mixing mini polka dots, flowers and scarve-like prints
Look at the winter collection: bombers, arm jumpers, the mixture of soft and bold colours (mint, creme, blue, navy and white)
I need to book a ticket to the antipodes...
