EGO. (centric) - Madrid Fashion Week Young Talent Platform

One of the most exciting parts of Fashion Weeks is the space dedicated to young talent. During last Mercedes Benz Madrid Fashion Week, EGO platform focused on young Spanish designers and their view of the fashion world. Fresh and new perspectives expressed in multiple ways.

From Amimanera's soft and romantic style full of silk and lace to the urban and playful looks presented by BEGO4MONSO, here is a review of some of the most promising designers in the Peninsula.

LFW - Eudon Choi

One of the stars of day one at LFW was Eudon Choi (see old post here).
Varykino, the AW13 show, was inspired by Russian folklore. Delicate flowered headbands and the reception of the audience with a band playing live music.
Embroidered skirts and jackets, vivid colors in addition to monochrome styles, pom-poms on the shoes as a finishing touch. It all added up and we were delighted with every piece.
THAT RED DRESS...The sound of the cameras was even louder.
And the pink knitted jumper and scarf,
And the leather dress,
And the Swarovski details...
Applauded by specialised press like Vogue, FT, The LFW Daily and dozens of bloggers, Eudon  combined full textures with feminine silhouettes.
His wearable collections are available here, and probably soon at many retailers in Europe.

gaffer&fluf - Unleash your creativity

Greek young designer founded Gaffer&Fluff in 2008, and this year they were exhibiting at Pure London. 

They presented a fresh collection inspired by origami: in the same way this beautiful art of folding a piece of paper works, Gaffer&Fluff clothes allow you to play with them, reinventing your look during the day.

The garments evolve and adapt to the wearer's mood and occasion thanks to their geometrical forms. This is a playful collection based on minimal clothes that allow individual expression.

The game is not over.

Eun Jeong - Korean Love Affair

Doing some research on what's new and who are the next designer to take on the luxury fashion world I came up with quite a few Korean names. Eudon Choi is already one of my favorites and I've been following him for the last year (his collection is now at Selfridges, Avenue 32 and Farfetch), but today I found another treasure whose name is Eun Jeong.

His technique and use of delicate fabrics enhance the feminine figure, folding it in a fresh and contemporary style. A regular of the London Fashion Week since 2008 and educated at prestigious Central St. Martins, Jeong's SS13 collection have a big influence of his Asian heritage, which we will see is one of the major trends for next season.

A simple and monochromatic palette of white, coral red and black with floral prints and delicate embroidery make his garments an inspiration for what to wear when warmer weather arrives.

Beautiful details and intricate work that show the designer's dedication to his passion.

McQueen (I) - One name, two lives

L'enfant terrible of the fashion industry.

Or that's what they say. Others called him the hooligan of fashion.

What cannot be argued is that his tailoring worked magic thanks to his talent and the training at famous Savile Row's Anderson & Sheppard, among others.

Four times British Designer of the Year is not and achievement that many can reach.

The best models have gone through the catwalk by his side.

Theatrical and dramatic, never unnoticed. 

McQueen designed Bjork's outfit for the album cover of Homogenic and Lady Gaga.

With Sarah Burton taking over him, McQueen's legacy will be perpetueted.

Opening Ceremony - Winning talent

A combination of retail shop, showroom and gallery, Opening Ceremony presents a contemporary collection and promotes at the same time new talent by researching design labels all over the world

Under the inspiration of the founder of modern day Olympics (very appropriate these days...) their vision comprise merging brands, business and global participation, which has been represented by having collaborations with toy, stationery and fashion brands (Chloè Sevigny, MM6 Maison Martin Margiela, Pendleton, Keds, Postalco, Sanrio and much more)

Every year they have a "visiting" country or city sharing their OC's space, capturing its essence and bringing both established and emerging designers

And above all of this, the Showroom in NYC with over twenty designer collections it's worth a visit
